Sheffield Winter Garden
A vast timber-arched glasshouse in the city centre, home to more than 2,000 plants and free to walk through.
The Winter Garden is one of the largest temperate glasshouses built in the UK in the last hundred years, and the biggest of its kind in any European city centre. Ten parabolic arches of unfinished larch rise above a planting of more than 2,000 plants from across the world, with palms, tree ferns and Australian species thriving indoors year-round.
It links the Peace Gardens to the Millennium Gallery, so most walking routes through the city centre pass straight through it. There are benches, a cafe alongside and regular seasonal displays, which makes it a dependable stop in Sheffield weather.
