Crucible Theatre

Sheffield's famous thrust-stage theatre and the spiritual home of world championship snooker.

The Crucible's thrust stage puts the audience on three sides, with no seat more than a short distance from the action — a design that has made it one of the most admired producing theatres in the country.

Every spring the auditorium is converted for the World Snooker Championship, an event the venue has hosted since 1977. The rest of the year it stages new work, classics and musicals, with the Studio and the neighbouring Victorian Lyceum completing the theatre quarter around Tudor Square.
