Sheffield Town Hall

The Victorian Gothic town hall above the Peace Gardens, topped by Vulcan, god of the forge.

Opened by Queen Victoria in 1897, the Town Hall is a Grade I listed pile of Stoke stone carved with friezes of Sheffield's trades — grinding, casting, smithing — and crowned by a 64-metre tower with a bronze figure of Vulcan on top.

It stands directly above the Peace Gardens, and the two together make the centre of the city. The interior opens for occasional tours and heritage weekends.
