Rivelin Valley

A wooded river valley of waterfalls and old mill ponds on the western edge of the city.

The Rivelin Valley Nature Trail runs around five miles along the river, past the remains of twenty water-powered mills, their dams and goits now softened into ponds and weirs full of dippers and herons.

It is one of the easiest genuinely wild-feeling walks reachable by bus from the centre, and connects on to the Peak District at its upper end.
