Old Town Hall, Waingate
A grand, long-empty Victorian courthouse and town hall being brought back to life at Castlegate.
Built in 1808 and much extended in the 1890s, the Old Town Hall on Waingate served as Sheffield's council chamber and then as its courts until 1997, after which it stood empty and became one of the city's best-known buildings at risk.
Its clock tower and carved stonework dominate the Castlegate end of the centre, and a community-led campaign is steadily reopening parts of it for events and tours.
