Barker's Pool & the War Memorial
The civic square in front of the City Hall, with Sheffield's striking flagpole war memorial.
Named after a reservoir built here in 1434, Barker's Pool is now the paved square outside the City Hall, dominated by the 1925 war memorial: a steel flagpole held by four bronze soldiers with rifles reversed.
It is where the city gathers for remembrance and celebration, and it links the Town Hall, the City Hall and the top of Fargate in a couple of minutes' walk.
